As a working art educator and artist I have often struggled to strike a balance between the dual passions of creating work and transferring ideas and practices to younger students. However I continue to discover that my impulse to create a new story continues to thrive.

There are many concepts that I have followed through my art and this is evidenced by my diverse range of works and mediums. The theme however that I return to again and again is the interactions of Women in Nature and in Space. I strive to understand a new story, an unfolding mythology that does not fall back on the conventions of historical patriarchy. As I work either through startling images in photography or gilded animal figures and painting in installation, I continue to uncover new ideas revolving around power, fear, and sexuality in Women’s lives.

Old tools and emerging narratives are the ways I approach my work. I believe that art is a hammer. I am interested in using this tool to create new pathways in our modalities of thought and experience about women and the space we inhabit. There is something forceful and strong about this tool, it is something that can never apologize for its usefulness.

I am interested in provoking a narrative that thwarts our conventions. I strive to achieve a balance between the known paradigm and the unusual twist of fate. I am most interested in my recent musings to explore this through the relationship between architectural spaces and women. How does the female sense of organic pragmatism interact with the known world of built forms?

Old tools and emerging narratives, these are the modes by which I create and unravel the stories that continue to go untold.
